Seoul, S. Korea, May 30, 2016: Ssangyong Motor (CEO Choi Johng-sik; www.kg-mobility.com), part of the Mahindra Group, today announced that the company has shipped its Rexton W to Peru which was selected as high-tech smart patrol car for Peruvian police. It is the biggest shipment ever for police supplies exports from Korea.

At a ceremony marking its first shipment from Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province on May 30, there were about 30 senior managements from Ssangyong Motor, KOTRA, and POSCO Daewoo including Song Young-han, Senior Executive Director & Head of Domestic and Export, Ssangyong Motor.

Ssangyong Rexton W’s exports for smart patrol car are based on a government-to-government (G2G) export contract which was made among KOTRA, POSCO Daewoo, and the Ministry of Home Affairs of Peru in Lima, Peru on December 29, 2015 after the Ministry showed a great interest in Korean smart petrol cars during Korea-Peru Summit in April 2015

A total of 2,108 units of Rexton W, including today’s 400 unit-exports, will be delivered to Peru from May to September this year. This is the largest-ever exports of specialized vehicles in Ssangyong’s history as well

The Rexton W patrol car will be utilized to take care of public order in 17 cities by the National Police Agency of the Ministry of Home Affairs of Peru. The supplied Rexton W with 4WD based 3.2 litre gasoline engine is a high-tech smart patrol car featuring bulletproof, high-tech searchlight, next-generation warning light, automatic number place recognition camera, fingerprint scanner, and other high-end IT systems.

The Rexton W has been supplied as specialized vehicle to the Korean National Police Agency, government offices and the military police of US Armed Forces in Korea based on its durability and safety being well acknowledged. The vehicle was also evaluated as the best patrol car in Peru, where there are many mountainous areas.

The company expects that its annual exports to Peru will set a record this year, jumping more than quadrupled to 2,600 units from 642 units in 2015. In addition, it will contribute to enhancing Ssangyong brand awareness and sales increase in the Central and South America

Meanwhile, Ssangyong’s various models including Korando, Actyon Sports and Rodius have been selected as specialized vehicles for public use by foreign government offices all over the world such as Belgium based on outstanding driving performance, safety, and specs.

Choi Johng-sik, CEO of Ssangyong Motor, commented, “We have made efforts to expand our global market with specialized vehicles based on our accumulation of experience and skills in Korea,” adding, “Starting with supplies of smart patrol cars to Peru, we are pushing forward to entering these specialized markets in the Central and South America following the European market.”
