Title SsangYong Motor Global Sales Record 13,168 units in September 2017

▪ Tivoli and Rexton lead sales growth; SsangYong to actively expand global market


SsangYong Motor Company (CEO Choi Johng-sik; www.kg-mobility.com/en), part of the Mahindra Group, today announced that the company sold a total of 13,168 units in September 2017 – 9,465 units in domestic sales and 3,703 in exports.


SsangYong's September sales exceeded 13,000 units for the first time this year, up 8.4% from a year earlier. Such achievement was attributed to the popularity of the Rexton and Tivoli brand which sold over 6,000 units globally in 5 months since April (6,096 units).


In the domestic market, the company recorded the sale growth for three consecutive months helped by strong sales of the brand-new Tivoli and 7-seater Rexton. Thanks to the high growth of 18.2 percent over September 2016, the company was able to reach No.3 in the domestic sales for the first time since its establishment.


The Tivoli brand's domestic sales greatly jumped 25.7 percent compared to the same month last year, recovering the 5,000 unit level in 5 months thanks to the popular Tivoli. The Rexton also soared greatly 263.4 percent over September 2016 thanks to the release of 7-seater version.


SsangYong continued to see the sales growth in the domestic market for the eighth straight year since 2010, following its highest H1 sales ever this year in 13 years. Its Jan-Sept domestic sales increased 8.0 percent over the same period last year.


SsangYong's September exports showed a recovery with a steady sales growth for four consecutive months, selling over 3,000 units for two consecutive months as the Rexton started to be launched globally.


SsangYong plans to expand its exports focusing on the Rexton. The company successfully completed the grand finale of the Rexton Trans-Eurasia Trail which run 13,000 Km across 23 cities in 10 countries that the vehicle proved its excellent off-road driving performance and durability.


In addition, the company launched the Rexton in the U.K last month and is ready to sell the vehicle in the overseas markets including Italy, Spain, the Middle East and Central America by holding the regional launching events.


Overall, the company's Jan-Sept global sales have greatly improved with a narrow drop YoY thanks to the sales growth of the Rexton and Tivoli brand which have witnessed an increase in the domestic market for the third straight year since its launch.


Choi Johng-sik, CEO of SsangYong Motor Company, commented, "In September, we spotted No. 3 in the domestic market for the first time since the company was established, as well as set a monthly sales record this year thanks to the strong sales of the Rexton and Tivoli," adding, "We will increase global sales by maintaining the sales growth in the domestic market and expanding global market based on the Rexton's exports."
