Title SsangYong Motor Global Sales Record 11,369 units in March 2018
Date 2018-04-02

▪ SsangYong sells 11,369 units globally in March, down 12.5 percent year-on-year

▪ Musso Pickup's monthly sales record high among the company's pick-up models since 2004

▪ SsangYong to focus on increasing production volume of the Musso through consecutive daytime shifts

SsangYong Motor Company (CEO Johng-sik Choi; www.kg-mobility.com/en), announced that it sold a total of 11,369 units in March 2018 – 9,243 units in domestic sales and 2,126 in exports.

Despite the popularity of brand-new Musso (domestic: Rexton Sports), SsangYong's March sales decreased by 12.5 percent from the previous year due to the reduction in export volume.

In March, the company's domestic sales rose 0.2 percent year-on-year on the back of the *Rexton brand's strong sales along with the Tivoli brand.

The Musso, which has received more than 20,000 orders since its launch in January, sold over 3,000 units in March, leading the company's domestic sales growth. It is the biggest monthly sales figure among SsangYong's pick-up models since April 2004 when the Musso Sports sold 3,180 units.

Accordingly, the company plans to increase its production volume by changing the work system from this month, including consecutive daytime shifts on the third assembly line where the Musso is manufactured.

SsangYong's March exports, which new models are ready to be added to, dropped 43.5 percent from the previous year. However, its exports are expected to recover gradually as the company is strengthening its lineup for overseas market including the Musso.

SsangYong Motor has been expanding its markets into Latin America, Oceania and Southeast Asia from the end of last year after introducing the Rexton in Europe, and the Musso is also ready to go abroad since its international debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

Johng-sik Choi, CEO of SsangYong Motor Company, commented, "The Rexton brand is driving our domestic sales growth along with the Tivoli brand, leading the market," adding, "We will further increase sales and resolve the back orders for awaited customers by increasing production volume resulted from the consecutive daytime shifts."
