Title SsangYong Motor Global Sales Record 12938 Units in May 2018
Date 2018-06-04

▪ May sales soar 4.8 percent YoY exceeding 12,000 units for the first time this year

▪ Rexton Sports sells 3,944 units, highest monthly sales in history of SsangYong's same class models

▪ SsangYong plans to increase its sales both at home and abroad with aggressive sales promotion strategies

SsangYong Motor Company (CEO Johng-sik Choi; www.kg-mobility.com/en) announced that it sold a total of 12,938 units in May 2018 – 9,709 units in domestic sales and 3,229 in exports.

SsangYong's May sales recorded a growth of 4.8 percent over May 2017, the biggest monthly performance of this year. Riding on the strong sales of the Rexton brands, sales in both the domestic and overseas markets also reached a monthly high this year.

In the domestic market, the Rexton Sports (export: Musso) led the monthly sales record. The vehicle recorded the highest ever monthly sales among SsangYong's same class models in history. (Previous high: 3,363 units for the Musso Sports in April 2003)

In particular, the Rexton Sports sold 3,944 units in Korea, up 130 percent from a year earlier and 30 percent from the previous month. This growth was attributed to the expansion of supplies based on consecutive daytime shifts.

SsangYong stressed that it will actively respond to resolution of the back orders of the Musso by continuously increasing its supplies based on stable production.

The company's exports, which have showed a consecutive increase since February, also recorded a growth of 53 percent compared to the same month last year as the shipments of the Rexton brands increased steadily along with the Tivoli brands.

In addition, it is expected that its exports will recover faster in the second half of the year as the CKD kits of the Rexton are scheduled to be shipped to the Indian market in earnest following the initial shipment.

Johng-sik Choi, CEO of SsangYong Motor Company, commented, "Musso is leading the company's sales growth based on increasing its supplies," adding, "We will further expand global sales with more aggressive sales promotion strategies as both our domestic sales and exports show a growth."
