SsangYong sold 11,420 vehicles in January 2019, up 11.9 percent year-on-year

January domestic sales hit a record high in 16 years helped by newly launched Rexton Sports Khan

SsangYong to increase global sales by strengthening domestic and overseas market shares based on expanded product lineup


SsangYong Motor Company (CEO Johng-sik Choi; www.smotor.com/en) announced that the company sold a total of 11,420 units in January 2019 – 8,787 units in domestic sales and 2,633 in exports.


SsangYong's January 2019 sales exceeded 11,000 units again in 5 years since January 2014 when its monthly sales were at 11,634 units, up 11.9 percent compared to January 2018. It was helped by increased domestic sales based on the successful launch of the Rexton Sports Khan (export: Musso Grand).


In the domestic market, the company recorded its highest January sales in 16 years since January 2003 when its sales were at 13,027 units, up 14.5 percent from a year earlier thanks to the popularity of Musso Grand.


For the Musso brand, its monthly sales have been breaking records for three consecutive months especially after the launch of Musso Grand. It launched in January, and is leading the new trend in the domestic SUV market with over 3,000 booking and leading the company's sales growth at home.


SsangYong will do everything possible to ensure increased production volume of the Musso Grand to meet backorders and customers' needs.


The company's January exports increased 4.1 percent over the same month last year, and they are expected to recover gradually as Musso has started to be shipped globally.


Johng-sik Choi, CEO of SsangYong Motor Company, commented, "Musso is leading the company's domestic growth along with the brand-new Musso Grand, receiving favorable reviews from the market," adding, "We will increase our global sales by strengthening both overseas market and domestic market shares since we are expanding our product line up."
