Date 2019-05-02

▪ April sales rise 16.3 percent YoY, exceeding 10,000 units at home for two straight months with successful launches of brand-new models

▪ Domestic sales grow 26.5 percent YoY based on popularity of Musso Grand and Korando

▪ SsangYong to increase global sales based on aggressive marketing programs and entry into new overseas markets

SsangYong Motor Company (CEO Byung-tae Yea; www.kg-mobility.com/en) announced that the company sold a total of 12,713 units in April 2019 – 10,275 units in domestic sales and 2,438 in exports, including CKD kits.

SsangYong's April 2019 sales jumped 16.3 percent over April 2018, showing an uptrend by surpassing 10,000 units in domestic sales for the second straight month thanks to the successful launches of new cars.

Its Jan-April 2019 sales also soared 14.4 percent compared to the same period last year as the monthly sales have been on the rise for the fourth straight month since January.

In the Korean domestic market, its sales jumped 26.5 percent from a year earlier boosted by the Tivoli brands, which recorded the biggest monthly sales this year, and new models such as the Rexton Sports Khan (export: Musso Grand) and the Korando that led the company's sales growth.

Its Jan-April 2019 domestic sales increased 17.2 percent compared to the same period last year, and the company expects to record a sales growth at home for ten consecutive years.

In the overseas market, the company is re-arranging its product mix prior to the global launches of new models that resulted in an export decrease over the same month last year, but its Jan-April 2019 exports were still on the rise of 4.8 percent year-on-year.

SsangYong Motor, however, expects a recovery gradually as its new models are ready to be sold globally after the regional launches including Musso Grand at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and brand-new Korando.

Byung-tae Yea, CEO of SsangYong Motor Company, commented, "We continue to see a significant sales growth by increasing sales of the new models which have their own unique charm and competitiveness," adding, "We will increase our global sales by focusing on launching new models in more overseas markets."
