Date 2021-10-15

▪ 700 vehicles to be supplied this year with the possibility of further deliveries by 2023

▪ Suitability assessments passed for field warfare to enhance operational and combat capabilities

▪ Characterised by the strong presence and robust design suited to a command vehicle

SsangYong Motor has announced that its Rexton Sports pick-up (export name: Musso) has been selected by the Korean Armed Forces as its new command vehicle in recognition of its overall excellence and suitability, strengthening the mobility of the Korean Army as well as its operational command ability.

A spokesperson for SsangYong Motor explained that the Rexton Sports had passed a wide range of field warfare suitability tests designed to assess new military command vehicles: these included driving performance and safety, power supply capability for signal operations, and Combat Operations Centre maneuverability.

The new Rexton Sports boasts an ultra-high-strength quad frame, and a powertrain that combines an e-XDi220 diesel engine optimised for the rugged terrain of South Korea with a robust four-wheel-drive system. This combination of features gives the vehicle the capability to undertake full military support in rugged field battle environments and especially in the mountainous regions of South Korea.

With its new 'Go Tough' design for the authentic pick-up look, the new Rexton Sports has also been enhanced to provide extended seating variations with a 6-seat option, improved safety with 6 airbags including side & curtain airbags, and upgraded hill climbing capability.

Beginning with an initial delivery of 200 vehicles, SsangYong will supply 700 Rexton Sports by the end of the year, with the possibility of further deliveries by 2023 determined by the military’s command vehicle exchange plan.

Acknowledged for their performance, quality and safety through rigorous suitability field trials, previous SsangYong models, the Rexton W and Korando Sports were selected as command vehicles in 2012, followed by the Rexton Sports in 2019. As an important contributor to the Korean armed forces,

SsangYong vehicles have been helping to strengthen the defensive force by improving operational capability. <Ends>
