Date 2016-01-05

▪ Ssangyong sold 144,764 cars in 2015, surpassing the 140,000 units mark three years in a row

▪ Domestic sales record highest-ever volume in 12 years, maintaining sales uptrend since 2009

▪ Ssangyong will expand sales by launching Tivoli’s long-body version early this year

Ssangyong Motor (CEO Choi Johng-sik; www.kg-mobility.com), part of the Mahindra Group, today announced that the company sold a total of 144,764 units in 2015 – 99,664 units in domestic sales and 45,100 in exports including CKD kits.

The company surpassed the 140,000 units mark in annual sales for three consecutive years, up 2.6% year-on-year driven by increased domestic sales thanks to the Tivoli which has been a mega hit in the market.

The Tivoli, which has led the compact SUV market since its launch, posted the highest ever yearly sales record in the company’s history by selling 63,693 units including 45,021 units in the domestic market and 18,672 units in the overseas market. The previous highest record was 54,274 units of the Rexton in 2004.

Helped by robust sales of the Tivoli, Ssangyong’s domestic sales in 2015 also recorded the highest figures in 12 years since 2003 when it posted 131,283 units. It reached almost 100,000 units in 2015 with the highest growth of 44.4% year-on-year in the automotive industry and continuous sales uptrend since 2009.

Ssangyong’s exports slightly narrowed the decline rate from over 40% in the first half to 37.4% annually year-on-year helped by increased European exports which surged over 80% following the launch of the Tivoli.

In December 2015, the company sold 15,116 units at home and abroad with an increase of 16.5% from a year earlier, posting the highest monthly sales figure in 2015.

Its domestic sales in December also recorded the highest number of 11,351 units with a rise of 37.4% from a year earlier since December 2003 when the company sold 11,487 units.

Choi Johng-sik, CEO of Ssangyong Motor, commented, “In 2015, we maintained our continuous growth for six consecutive years in the domestic market by achieving the highest sales figure in 12 years as well as the highest growth among the automakers driven by the Tivoli,” adding, “We will expand our global sales by focusing on the Tivoli which has dominated the compact SUV market as well as launching the long-bodied Tivoli which maximizes its utility.”
