Title Danny Ham looking for hometown advantage
Date 2006-02-28

The double header round of the Ssangyong Australian Supermoto Championship will see the return of Thornton resident, Danny Ham to the sliding antics and ultra competition of National level racing.

Ham, who is riding for a new team this year and is proud to be supported by a local business in that of Axis Motorsports of Newcastle. The motorcycle performance engine and suspension tuning specialists already have a hard charging rider in Rodney Taplin and adding Ham to the team sees them as being a force to be reckoned with in the hard charging discipline.

The 27 year old has spent most of his life now riding bikes and accruing trophies at a National level in outdoor motocross and Supercross, and one of his proudest moments has come from winning his home town race at the Newcastle round of the Australian Supercross masters. Not many riders get to represent their country, and Ham has had the privilege in the International end of season race, MX Des Nations where the best motocross riders in the world battle for the honors.

2 years ago whilst riding for the Factory Suzuki motocross squad, Ham was invited to try his hand at Supermoto and instantly was drawn to the fast and exciting nature of the sport.

This year, Ham has moved to riding a Honda CRF450 and now juggles his riding with his new business venture of operating a noodle restaurant.

Ham said, "I was very gratefull of the ride I have been given, it was really important for me to be able to ride in front of friends and family and I know that the bike is very competitive. The guys who race at the front are tough competitors and I like that, it drives you to go harder and push your limits.? Having ridden at the track last year I really like the layout and it makes it exciting to watch as all the action is right there in front of you."

Ham's teammate, Rodney Taplin is currently level in points with the championship leader and won the 1st race of the year at Eastern Creek Kart Track in January and has shown that the team's bikes are not lacking in their setup.
